Senior Dating Sites in Canada: How to Choose One
Most people who type that phrase into Google do not think of themselves as seniors. They are 54, or 61, or 68, and they want to know which of these sites is worth an evening of their time. This page tries to answer that plainly, including where DateSteady fits and where it does not.
What people are actually asking
Strip away the marketing and the same four questions come up every time.
- Are these real people? The honest answer is that no site can promise you that. What a site can tell you is what it checks, and what that check proves.
- What does free actually cover? On a lot of sites, free means you can look but not reply.
- Who will be able to see me? A fair question, especially in a smaller city where you might know half the town.
- How do I get out again? Ending a subscription and deleting your information should be easy to find before you join, not after.
Six things worth checking before you sign up anywhere
These apply to any site you are weighing up, not just this one.
- Ask what verification actually checks, not whether it exists. Almost every site says it has verification. Fewer will tell you what it proves. A photo check and an identity check are very different things.
- Find out what the free account really includes. Specifically, whether you can send a message or only receive one.
- Look for one price, not a maze. If you cannot find the price before you register, that is worth noticing.
- Check how your data is handled. Canadian privacy law, PIPEDA, applies to any service operating here. Read what the site says about selling data.
- Find the exit before you need it. Look for a one click export of your information and a clear way to delete your account.
- See who actually runs it. A named company with a real address tells you who is accountable.
What free covers on DateSteady
Your profile, browsing, the compatibility questionnaire, and messaging your connections. You can hold a conversation without paying us anything.
VIP is CA$24.99 a month if you want it. That is the only paid plan, with nothing longer to commit to and nothing else to buy. It renews until you cancel, and you cancel in your account settings. Every check, report and block tool is free on every tier. Live voice and video calls are part of VIP.
How DateSteady checks who you are talking to
On DateSteady, trust is not a single badge. It is a list you can read. Every profile shows its checks, and it is worth being clear about what each one does and does not tell you.
- Phone confirms a working mobile number by text code, and it is required before anyone can send you a message or show interest. It does not confirm a name.
- Email confirms an inbox is reachable. It is optional and counts toward the Trust Score. It tells you nothing about the person.
- Age is confirmed by date of birth at registration. You must be 18 or older to join. Where the law requires it, a third-party age check applies.
- Photos are screened automatically when they are uploaded, and anything that does not pass is held for review before it appears.
- Selfie badge is optional. A live selfie is compared with the profile photos to confirm the same person appears in both. It does not confirm their name, their job, or their intentions.
- A friend's vouch is optional. A member asks someone who knows them to write a few words, which appear on the profile.
Every profile shows a public Trust Score out of 100. It goes up as a member completes these checks and fills out their profile (a completed questionnaire, a full profile, three or more photos, a voice prompt and a video greeting). Phone and age are required of everyone, so they add no points. A higher number means more has been checked, and you see it before you say hello.
Photos cannot be sent inside private messages at all, which is switched off deliberately. Messages are scanned for scam patterns, and we do not sell your personal data.
What we do not do: we do not run criminal background checks. We do not create fake profiles or send messages from automated accounts, and we do not inflate activity to make the site look busier than it is. A few internal test accounts are kept away from members. We cannot promise everyone here is honest, and any service that promises you that is telling you something it cannot know.
No swiping, and a compatibility score you can see
You see one person at a time and choose Pass, Like or Flare, and you can undo. There is no deck to get through and no reward for going faster.
Compatibility comes from a questionnaire of 57 questions about values, lifestyle and what you are looking for. Six things are weighted, and we will tell you how: distance counts for a quarter of the score, shared interests a fifth, then age, personality and lifestyle at fifteen percent each, and attachment style for the last tenth. Every connection shows you which of those you actually have in common.
It does not know whether you will like each other. It narrows who you see. The rest is still a conversation between two people.
If a conversation goes quiet, DateSteady offers a gentle reminder to both people rather than letting it die. It cannot prevent ghosting.
Where DateSteady fits, honestly
DateSteady is a Canadian dating app designed for dating after 50. It is new, and it opens city by city: until a city opens you are held in its founding group rather than dropped into a feed with nobody in it. We would rather tell you that up front than let you find out after you have written a profile.
So what you can judge today is how it is built, not how busy it is. If the way a site handles profile checks, privacy and pace matters to you, it is worth a look. If you want a crowd tonight, it is not there yet.
You can start DateSteady in your web browser, on a computer, tablet or phone, so you do not need to download anything or set up an app store account first. On an Android phone, you can also use the app from Google Play. It is operated by HoopFrog Inc., based in St. Albert, Alberta.

Who is DateSteady for?
DateSteady is a Canadian dating app designed for dating after 50. The design, the pace and the safety tools are built for dating again later in life. You must be 18 or older to join.
Is it safe?
DateSteady uses layered safeguards, and no dating service is risk free. A confirmed phone number is required before anyone can message you. Photos are screened automatically when they are uploaded. Members who add the optional live selfie check earn a selfie badge, and every profile shows a public Trust Score so you can see which checks someone has completed. Messages are scanned for scam patterns. We do not run criminal background checks, and no site can promise that everyone on it is honest.
Do I need to know how to use apps?
No. DateSteady runs in the web browser you already use, on a computer, tablet or phone, so you do not need to download anything or set up an app store account. If you would rather use an app on an Android phone, there is one on Google Play. You see one person at a time, and there is no swiping to learn. If you want it to open like an app, you can add it to your Home Screen.
How do I know someone is real?
Look for two things on their profile. A selfie badge means they took a live selfie that was compared with their own profile photos. The Trust Score shows which checks they have completed, such as phone confirmation and the selfie. Neither confirms a name, a job or intentions, so keep the usual care: have a voice or video call inside DateSteady before you meet, and never send money to someone you have not met in person.
What does it cost?
Joining is free. VIP is CA$24.99 a month and it is the only paid plan. It renews monthly until you cancel, and you cancel in your account settings. Every check, report and block tool is free on every tier. Live voice and video calls are part of VIP.
What happens if I'm not sure about someone?
Ask. Inside DateSteady you can tap "Am I being scammed?" at any point and answer a few short questions. You get a plain answer: the warning signs it found and what to do next. The other member is never told you asked. You can also block or report anyone at any time, from their profile or your conversation.
Is my information private?
We do not sell your personal data. You can download a copy of your data and delete your account from your settings whenever you choose.
Is DateSteady a Canadian company?
Yes. DateSteady is a brand of HoopFrog Inc., based in St. Albert, Alberta.
