DateSteady is a dating app designed for dating after 50, built in Canada. Adults of any age are welcome, and you must be 18 or older to join. If it has been a while, you are in good company here. There is no swiping and no timer. You read one profile at a time and say hello when you are ready.

You join for free, confirm your phone and email, and answer a short questionnaire about your values and how you live. Then you look around at your own pace. You can add a voice or video greeting to your profile so people hear you before they write. When someone fits, you say hello.

No. DateSteady works in the web browser on your phone, tablet or computer. If you would rather use an app on an Android phone, it is on Google Play. There is no iPhone app yet, so on an iPhone use the website for now. It is offered in seven languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Portuguese and Welsh.

Both. Some members want a partner. Some want company for dinner, a walk, or a concert. The questionnaire asks what you are hoping for, and the compatibility breakdown shows where you line up.

Safety is built in, and we are plain about its limits. On DateSteady, trust is not a single badge. Every profile shows what has been checked: phone, email, age, photos, the optional selfie badge and a friend's vouch, with everything beyond the required phone and age added together into a public Trust Score. Nobody can like or send a message until their phone is confirmed. Photos are screened automatically on upload, and anything that does not pass is held for review. No. Swiping asks you to judge a face in a second. DateSteady shows you one person at a time, with their words and a compatibility breakdown, and you choose Pass, Like or Flare. Read more about why there is no swiping.

You look at one person, fully. If you like what you read, you choose Like. A Flare is a limited, stronger hello that also comes with an opener, so the first words are easier. When the interest is mutual, you can start talking.

Today's Picks is a short list of people suggested for you each day, because you have things in common. Each one shows why, for example shared values or living nearby. You can say hello with a Like, or set someone aside. There is no rush. Today's Picks is free and appears once your area is open.

Every profile comes with a compatibility breakdown. It is built from the short questionnaire you both answered, about your values, your way of life, what you are hoping for and your area, and it shows where the two of you line up. It helps you decide on more than a photo.

You can undo it. Choosing Pass means "not for me", and Undo brings that person back. It works for a pass made in the last day. Undo is part of VIP. A Like or a Flare cannot be undone this way.

Yes. Lifestyle and values filters keep the people you see close to how you live. Alongside the questionnaire, they shape your compatibility breakdown.

You can also mark a preference as a dealbreaker, meaning a firm no, and people who do not fit it are left out of your feed. The free plan includes a small number of dealbreakers, and VIP allows more.

Yes. You set a daily limit in minutes. When you reach it, DateSteady suggests a break. Your connections will still be there when you come back.

Ask for a call inside DateSteady before you meet. Someone who avoids every call, talks about love very quickly, or asks for money is telling you something. Here is what a checked profile means.

A public number out of 100 on every profile. It goes up as a member completes checks such as phone, email, age, photos, the optional selfie badge, optional location and a friend's vouch, and fills out their profile with the questionnaire, three or more photos, a voice greeting and a video greeting. Phone and age are required of everyone, so they add no points. A higher number means more has been checked. It does not confirm identity, character or intentions, and it is not a rating of the person.

It is an optional badge. A member can confirm the city on their profile using their phone's location, which we check in more than one way. It only counts when the phone is near that city, and other members see the city, not the exact location.

One thing we will not do: DateSteady does not create fake profiles or automated accounts to make the community look bigger or to tempt people to join. It was one of our pet peeves with other apps, so we built DateSteady without it. Now and then we use a few internal test accounts to try new features; they are kept out of discovery, search and suggestions, so they do not interact with members.

Catfishing means pretending to be someone else online, often with another person's photos. No app can stop it entirely, but DateSteady makes it harder. Everyone confirms a phone number before they can like or message, photos are screened when they are uploaded, the optional selfie badge compares a live selfie with the member's own profile photo, and voice and video greetings let you hear and see someone.

Members can also confirm the city on their profile with their phone's location, which we check in more than one way, and in any conversation you can ask the other person for a live selfie or to confirm their location. They can say no, and you only see whether it was done.

Yes. Members can record a voice or video greeting for their profile, and you can listen before you write. That is free. Voice and video calls inside DateSteady are part of VIP, so you can talk without giving out your phone number. More on voice and video calls.

Both are short, optional introductions on your profile. A voice greeting is an audio clip of up to 30 seconds, so people hear how you sound. A video greeting is a video of up to 30 seconds, with captions in the viewer's language, so they see you too. Both are free, and both add to your Trust Score.

Yes, and we suggest it. Voice and video greetings (with captions) let you hear and see someone before you write. With VIP, you can also send voice notes and make calls inside DateSteady: a call starts with audio and moves to video when you are both ready. None of this shares your phone number with the other person.

Messages are checked for the patterns romance and investment scams use, and if one appears, the person receiving it gets a quiet prompt. Everyone confirms a phone number before they can message. Money is the tell. Nobody you have not met in person should ask you for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or help with an investment. Other signs: they can never manage a call, they profess love within days, their story keeps changing, or they want to move the conversation off DateSteady quickly. If something feels off, use the built-in "Am I being scammed?" check, in the app and on the website: a few short questions, then a plain answer with the warning signs it found and what to do next.

Do not send anything. Report the profile from the conversation, and block them if you want to. If you have already sent money, call your bank first, then the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. If a conversation goes quiet, DateSteady offers a gentle reminder. When people are waiting on you, it asks you to answer at least one of them before you look at new profiles. And if it is not right, you can end a conversation with a short goodbye instead of silence. This reduces ghosting (when someone simply stops replying), though it cannot prevent it.

Yes. In Settings you choose who can start a conversation with you: everyone, or only the people you have connected with. You can block or report anyone from their profile or the conversation.

Yes. On the website, you can search your conversations by name, sort them by most recent, oldest or name, and search inside a conversation to find an earlier message. In the Android app, you can sort your list too and archive a conversation to tidy it away. Archived conversations are kept on that phone, and you can bring them back at any time.

Signed-in members can see your profile. Private photos, part of VIP, are visible only to your approved connections. Invisible, also part of VIP, hides when you are online, when you have read a message, and when you are typing.

Your messages and voice notes are encrypted in transit and on our servers, not end to end, and DateSteady does not sell your personal information. From Settings, you stay in control: download a copy of your data or delete your account, choose your privacy and consent settings, see where you are signed in, turn on two-factor sign-in, and pause your account when you need a break.

Only the people you approve. Adding private photos is part of VIP. In the Android app, another member can ask to see them, and you approve or decline. You can take access away later, and after a decline, the same person cannot ask again for 30 days.

No. We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers. You can download a copy of your data from your settings, and you can ask us to delete your account. Our Privacy Policy has the detail.

Yes. Joining is free, and the free plan does not need a card. It includes your profile, browsing, the compatibility questionnaire, a limited number of daily likes, and a blurred view of who likes you. Messaging is free with every connection you make.

You can make your free profile wherever you live. DateSteady opens one area at a time, and meeting people starts when your area opens. We will let you know when that happens. VIP is offered only in cities that are open.

CA$24.99 a month. That is the only paid plan. There is no longer package, no add-on, and no trial. VIP renews every month until you cancel, and you can cancel any time in Settings. The full billing terms are on one page.

Message reactions, seeing everyone who liked you, unlimited likes, private photos and a 20-photo gallery, voice notes, voice and video calls, 5 Flares a day, Do Not Disturb for calls, Invisible, read receipts control, and unlimited lifestyle filters are all part of VIP. Yes, with VIP. Your weekly highlights card sums up your week on DateSteady: new connections, your most active conversation and how many people viewed your profile. On the free plan, the view count stays hidden. It is a number, not a list of names.

Any time, from Settings › Membership › Cancel Subscription. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep VIP until then. You do not need to give a reason. Full steps are on our Cancellation and Refund Policy page.

Charges are generally not refundable, and there are no refunds or credits for a period you have only partly used, except where the law requires one. If you think you were charged by mistake, email support@datesteady.com within 30 days of the charge and we will look into it. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer law where you live.

DateSteady is opening one area at a time. You can make your free profile now, wherever you live, and join as a founding member. When your city opens, you are among the first in, and we let you know. VIP is offered only in cities that are open. DateSteady is run by HoopFrog Inc. in St. Albert, Alberta.

DateSteady hosts events for members. When one is scheduled near you, it appears on the Events page and you can reserve a spot there. None are scheduled while we open our first cities.
